Home-Grown Flavorful, Juicy Oranges

Why Blood Orange Trees?

Famous for their distinctive aftertaste, similar to raspberry or strawberry, Blood Orange Trees offer unique, delectable fruit. And since they're easy to grow at home, you can harvest this fruit yourself...no trip to the supermarket required.

Especially since the Blood Orange is cold hardy. But if you live in a cooler area, simply pot your Blood Orange Tree up and place it on your patio. Once it gets cold, bring your Blood Orange Tree inside and let the citrus fragrance emanate.

I live in zone 4b. To tell the truth I was surprised on the size and health of trees. As of right now, everything on track. After planting we went through a crucial time of stunt growth. After planting and with proper nutrients, the tree started to flower. The tree started to lose leaves. I removed the flowers, trimmed dead branches, removed any cross branching, and right now I have a flourishing blood orange tree with tons of new growth. FYI, I received my trees in January. They are getting ready to flower again. Both my blood and naval orange tree.

    Due to my mix-up about

Due to my mix-up about the several new trees I have, I neglected to bring my Blood Orange Tree inside for the unexpected cold spell we had. 24 degrees several nights in a row. I had heavily mulched and used a bag covering, but nothing more except a position in a container near the house. So far it looks good with even some new growth, but time will tell. It arrived in great shape and seemed to take to its new pot home well.

Resistant to low light and bounced back

I bought this tree in spring of 2024. I took inside due to the cold weather in Chicago. I left it next to a window inside the house. I didn't realize I was underwatering it until a few weeks ago when the leaves started to curl and thought it was going to die. I miscalculated the effect of the dry atmosphere due to the heater running constantly. I added a t5 light and started watering more often. Now its thriving with the little light from the window and t5 light. I started to see new blossoms and 2 tiny oranges already. I really didn't expect much success but it looks like I will finally be able to grow some oranges here in Chicago. Even my cats like to lay next to it.

    This tree showed up healthy

This tree showed up healthy and has been doing great. I've had it for just over a year and it has a dozen oranges on it. Can't wait until they get ripe.
