Upright, Columnar Branching + Rich Elm Color
Why DannaSpire Columnar Elm Trees?
One of the newest introductions in the Elm family, the DannaSpire Columnar Elm Tree lives up to its name, with sleek upright branching and smaller leaves that mean more versatility and effortless growth for you.
It's perfect for hedging, street planting, urban environments, and beyond. Because it's tolerant of most tough conditions, including air pollution, you won't have to worry about stunted growth - you'll have a neat columnar growth habit and rich yellow-orange fall color that lasts well into the season.
And even when its fine foliage drops, you still have eye-catching interest from its curling bark that peels to reveal tones of orange, white and gray.
Plus, you get beauty and brawn since it's resistant to wind, snow, rain, and drought. Unlike other varieties, it doesn't succumb to Dutch elm disease or elm yellows. That means you can plant your DannaSpire, sit back, and watch the show...no guesswork required.
Why Fast-Growing-Trees.com is Better

Finally, since it’s been grown and shipped in its existing pot, roots intact, it’s ready to take off once it arrives at your door.
But don't wait...this new introduction is hard to find at big-box stores and other garden centers. Order your own DannaSpire Columnar Elm Tree today, before it sells out!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Before planting, it’s important to choose a location with enough space to accommodate the size of your Elm. Furthermore, your DannaSpire should be planted in a sunny spot (6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day) with well-drained soil.
After you’ve selected a suitable location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your tree’s root ball. Once you’ve placed your tree, backfill its soil, tamp down to avoid air pockets, and lastly, water to help establish its roots.
Following planting, simply water and monitor – that’s it. No fertilizer or pruning needed.
2. Watering: Water your tree regularly during the growing season (approximately one thorough watering each week is fine).
But if you’re not sure when to water your tree, simply check its surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If the soil in this area is dry, it’s time to water.

Very pleased with purchase….so far
I’m giving this a 4 star review for now because I only just received delivery of my order today and haven’t planted yet. That being said I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of my order. Trees (I ordered 2) came packaged very well and although trunks are thin I expected they would be. What I didn’t expect was how leafed out they would be. Very healthy looking. FedEx also did a great job with delivery following outer package instructions on how to handle. Delivery was made 3 days after ordering. I also ordered a small shrub that was packed with one of the trees, again good condition and well leafed. Soil for all plants was still moist and protected by plastic bag around planters. Looking forward to updating this review once everything is in the ground and seeing how well they grow. Very pleased with purchase so far.
Wonderful Tree
I’ve read some negative reviews stating that it’s only a twig or a sapling you’re getting. It’s true that its trunk is barely the width of a pencil when it’s shipped. It definitely needs to be staked for support for a couple of seasons until the caliper grows thicker. However, it grows rapidly, especially in an area that gets 6 to 8 hours of sunlight. I couldn’t believe how much this “moderate” growing tree grew in one season - and that was in an area that DIDN’T get full sunlight.

This thing grows like a freak.
I have a particular location that had failed a couple trees, one hornbeam and the other a horse chestnut. I watered both religiously but they just couldn't handle the Colorado summer sun and direness. I went with the 3-4 ft option on this one and it has already grown taller than an Acer Hot Wings maple that had two years on it. They don't look that great in their first year or two but it's starting to fill out nicely. I've decided that I'm going to buy more of these to hedge other parts of the house.
What a Young One Looks Like
The first time I ordered from Fast Growing Trees, I remember wishing the item description photos showed some examples of what it might look like when it arrives. Well, this picture is of a Dannaspire Columnar Elm that I received, shipped through a very hot, triple-digit week (I think they packed it on a Tuesday and it arrived on a Saturday - a day of 103 degrees). It was well-packaged but a little droopy coming out of the box, so I watered it well, prepared its home and tucked it into the ground. I gave it a minor trim to remove a couple of small (seemingly) dead twigs, and a couple of lower sprouts from the trunk. This is what it looked like just after planting. I am confident I can rely on FGT for healthy trees, well-delivered, and customer service to back it up should anything go wrong. Can't wait to see this grow into the beautiful spire to come!
