sun shining

Sunlight

Your American Arborvitae Tree needs lots of bright sunlight. Choose a spot in your yard that receives full sun during the day (6 to 8 hours of sunlight).

drops of water

Watering

For the first season after you plant your tree, water it deeply and frequently by placing a water hose at its base for 10 minutes a few times a week. After the first season, your American Arborvitae should not need extra watering except in periods of drought with little rainfall.

Fertilizing

No fertilizer is necessary for the American Arborvitae to thrive, but if you want to give it a boost you can use a general evergreen and shrub fertilizer in the Spring.

A Practical, Low-Maintenance Tree for Every Yard

Why American Arborvitaes?

Whether you want an accent tree, natural privacy fence or a simple and easy tree for your yard, the American Arborvitae is a great choice. This tree is tolerant of most soil conditions and most climates, including both cold winters and hot summers.

Other common names for the American Arborvitae include:

  • Northern White Cedar
  • Eastern Arborvitae
  • Eastern White Cedar
  • Swamp Cedar

That means it’s easy to grow. Once you plant the American Arborvitae, there's no need to prune, shape or fertilize this tree. This columnar tree will grow and taper to a point towards the top even if you don't have a green thumb and keeps its natural, elegant silhouette in the process.

It's the perfect, natural privacy fence. If you want an evergreen privacy fence that takes no maintenance, then you should order several American Arborvitaes. They grow perfectly together and won't require shearing to maintain. Plus, it’s ideal for plant next to entryways or near hard edges or corners to add softness and interest.

A great online nursery

Healthy trees, arrived promptly, packaged well, ordered 55 and all were in good shape, great customer service. They sent me a picture of the tree before the actual purchase while on the phone talking with them. With this site, when you call, you get a prompt pickup and talk to real tree experts and get all your questions answered, which is rare with online ordering.

So far so good

The trees experienced 60 mph. winds two days after they were planted and not only stayed up, but seem to be doing really well!
